Mission Statement
The Jefferson County Probation and Parole Department utilizes Evidence-Based Practices that provide services to justice-involved individuals. The mission of our department is to enhance public safety; hold offenders accountable; and promote pro-social changes in behavior to reduce recidivism, eliminate dependency on drugs and alcohol, and reestablish healthy and productive lifestyles.
Services
The department provides services to adults and juveniles who have been placed under supervision by the Jefferson County Court of Commons Pleas. These services include recommending sanctions to the court, enforcing court orders, operating correctional institutions, incarcerating delinquents, and criminals, assisting victims, and providing corrective assistance to individuals in conflict with the law.
Individuals are encouraged to make pro-social decisions, to restore victims to the degree possible, and to overcome maladaptive behaviors. Services are coordinated with other agencies, such as mental health or drug & alcohol, with the goal of reducing an offender’s risk to re-offend. Individuals under court supervision are seen in the homes, at their school or workplace, at community service events, and at the Probation Office. Probation officers are peace officers and have the authority to arrest those offenders who violate court-ordered conditions and bring them back before the court to be held accountable. The department works together with law enforcement agencies, schools, community-based organizations, and the citizens of Jefferson County to form productive partnerships to ensure public safety, offender rehabilitation, and the protection of victims’ rights.
